What?

A big part of my practise as an artist is education. I have been leading workshops and projects in theatres, commuinity settings and schools for over 9 years in; spoken word, poetry and storytelling, beatboxing, rapping and devised theatre making.

Who?

From toddlers to young adults and senior citisens, I have led programs with Mountview, Stratford Theatre Royal, The Beatbox Academy, The National Literacy Trust, The Unicorn Theatre, Pilot Theatre, Battersea Arts Centre, Roundhouse, Cardboard Citizens, Tricycle Theatre, Lyrix Organix, The Albany, Dulwich Picture Gallery, Apples & Snakes, Camden People's Theatre, Farnham Maltings, Green Shoes Arts, Young & Talented, Heart & Soul and SPID Theatre, as well as several schools and youth centres across London and the south east.

Why?

I belive every person, regardless of background, should have the agency to tell their own stories, in their own way. Since I began writing rap lyrics at 17, on the backs of envelopes, this is always how I've began my work; using my own voice and experiences to connect with the outer world. I find this approach works well in a varitey of different settings, whether I'm working on a beatbox and rap project, or leading young artists making solo theatre shows.

Quotes

"Paul came and did a workshop for our community group which consists of older people and younger people in Camden and Islington meeting up to take part in interesting activities. From the start of the session Paul was very friendly and managed to put everyone at ease with his relaxed manner. Some of the attendees were a bit nervous about trying to rap as they had never done it before but within minutes they were throwing themselves into the fun tasks Paul was setting them and really enjoying it. Paul is a very skilled poet and a great performer, it was incredible to see how quickly he thought on his feet when he was coming up with lyrics. Paul was very aware of how difficult people can find writing poetry when it's not something they do all the time and he was encouraging and motivational but never patronising. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Paul to anyone else, he's an absolute legend!"

Andy Naylor, Promgramme Coordinator, North London Cares

' Paul is a deft writer, performer and facilitator who has a rare ability to connect with people on a unique level. His versatile workshops combine word, theatre and music.  Whether it's working with emerging artists, young people with disabilities or learning needs, Paul consistently inspires whoever he works with. '

Dan Tsu, Artistic Director, Lyrix Organix

' Paul has led and co-led a range of spoken word and drama projects at the Unicorn Theatre for the Unicorn Community department as an artist and facilitator. Paul plans and delivers spoken word workshops that are tailored brilliantly to the needs of the groups he works with and this always generates great results. Paul is an exceptional facilitator and the young people who work with him time and time again ask for him back. Paul's workshops feel relevant and urgent; his honest and humble approach to generating work with young people encourages even the least confident young participant to pick up a pen and give something a go.  Paul has the ability to fuse art-forms within workshops based on his own skills and experience - spoken word, theatre, beatboxing and music. He has worked on targeted projects including young carer, children in care and estate-based projects with the Unicorn Theatre.'

Sally Pembroke, Community Projects Director, Unicorn Theatre Community.

‘Paul took part in the National Literacy Trust’s Young City Poets programme, where he delivered very well received poetry workshops in schools across London. He is professional and a pleasure to work with. I highly recommend him.’
